SINGAPORE - BBC Worldwide regional director Michael Rees is leaving the network for Mirriad, a UK-based company that retroactively inserts brands into reruns.

After four years, Rees said he leaves BBC on “very good terms”. Based in Singapore, he will be Mirriad’s first APAC executive as VP of sales.

“I am looking forward to start a new journey with a very exciting company, which provides native in-video advertising solutions for content owners,” Rees told Campaign Asia-Pacific in an email.

BBC Worldwide is likely to announce Rees’ replacement next month, a spokesperson for the company said.

At BBC, Rees managed and led a team of 10 across the Singapore and Korea ad sales markets. He was previously regional sales director for Fox International Channels, where he was responsible for advertising revenue for National Geographic channels and Fox channels. He has also held sales roles at Turner International Asia-Pacific and the International Herald Tribune.

Mirriad aims to help brands reach target consumers in a contextually relevant way with in-video advertising units that are measurable, scalable, and trackable. For example, characters from TV show ‘White Collar’ walk past a store that has been altered to be a Subway shop.

Launched in 2008, the company has accumulated $7 million in funding and has appointed former EMI CEO Roger Faxon as chairman to increase its visibility in the industry.
