The Edge to launch new regional digital title led by EIC Leslie Lopez

KUALA LUMPUR - The Edge Malaysia has plans to launch a new regional tablet-led weekly publication in the style of the discontinued Far Eastern Economic Review to be headed by current editor-in-chief of The Edge, Leslie Lopez.

According to industry sources, Lopez will be retaining his editor-in-chief post at The Edge Malaysia but that role will take a back seat to the launch and management of the as-yet-unnamed new regional title.

Lopez was named EIC of The Edge half a year ago in July 2012 and his tenure has been a time of upheaval at The Edge, during which the publication lost some of its top talent including deputy editor Jose Barrock, and senior writers Nadia S. Hassan, Sharon Tan and Chua Sue-Ann.

These changes follow Ho Kay Tat's return to The Edge as group CEO and publisher last month. Ho was editor-in-chief at The Edge for nearly 15 years before leaving to take a job with The Star Malaysia as COO in 2010. He left The Star as group managing director and CEO.
