Emmy Award-winning The Amazing Race to debut in Australia

The reality programme produced in Australia for the first time, will feature teams of Australian couples competing against each other in various locations around the world.

According to a company release, production will commence later this year and in conjunction with Active TV. A localised version of The Amazing Race is already produced in Asia and China.

"Audiences in Australia have shown an enormous appetite for high-quality, locally produced shows in recent years. The Amazing Race Australia is another great milestone in our long-standing relationship with Channel Seven in bringing programmes that resonate with viewers here,” said Rob Gilby, senior vice president and managing director at Disney Media Distribution Asia Pacific.

The Australian version of British cooking game show MasterChef recently broke television records during its final episode in July. According to News.com.au, the show peaked with 3.348 million viewers across the five capital cities of the country, to become the third-highest rating event behind the 2005 Australian Open tennis final and the 2003 Rugby World Cup final.

Seven’s broadcast television platform, the Seven Network, reaches 98 per cent of Australians and is Australia’s leading television network in breakfast television, morning television, news and public affairs.
