Danone calls media pitch in Japan

TOKYO – Danone is believed to have called a review of its media planning and buying business in Japan.

The agencies pitching for the business have not been confirmed.

Danone’s principal product lines in Japan are bottled water, including Evian, and yoghurt, including the Bio brand. The company operates in conjunction with Kirin and Yakult in the market.

Danone is the leading bottled water company in Asia but faces a challenge in the premium mineral water segment in Japan given the proliferation of local brands and fellow international competitors such as Coca-Cola, which has captured significant market share since the launch of its I-Lohas brand.
