Watch: The MediaWorks Experience 2017

Eight teams. Four days. One winning pitch. Grab your popcorn.

In April, Campaign held the 12th edition of MediaWorks, an annual gathering that invites young media professionals from across Asia to prove they can craft a viable pitch within extremely tight deadlines.

With the dust settled, we present The MediaWorks Experience 2017, a short film that showcases not only what went down at this year's event but also the elements that make MediaWorks a unique experience.

The film follows the journey of eight attendees, thrust into groups of total strangers and tasked with creating a new marketing strategy for a client in under 40 hours. This year in Hanoi, under the guidance of several experienced industry mentors, 79 competed for the winning pitch.

The event was chaired for the 11th time by Torie Henderson, CEO for Southeast Asia and India at Omnicom Media Group, while the role of the client was fulfilled by Seraphina Wong, APAC executive director for brand management and advertising at UBS (though the pitch was not related to UBS).

In addition to the contest, the event included presentations from Neil Stewart, head of agency for APAC at Facebook; Regina Goh, Asia managing director at Blis; and Paul Sng, senior content strategist with BBC StoryWorks. Campaign brand director Atifa Silk also chaired an agency CEO panel discussion.

As participant Ronnie Thomas Valiyaveetil puts it in the film, "MediaWorks technically could be a second Mecca for an assembly of media giants and the young media professionals."

If you're in the mood for some reality TV-styled drama aimed squarely at the marketing crowd, grab your popcorn, because this is for you.
