The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) is the site of Australia's greatest cricketing successes. Last year, a turf sample from the ground was regrown in Arnidale NSW, where a group of Merino sheep grazed on the grass "infused with cricketing greatness". Tailor-made M.J. Bale suits, the first of which are for the Australian Cricket team, are being handcrafted with the superfine wool from these sheep.
'Grazed on greatness', the resulting short documentary film, was created by Whybin\TBWA under the creative guidance of John McKelvey and Peter Galmes. Cricketing legends Shane Watson, Michael Slater and Dougie Walters feature alongside Merino wool grower Bill Mitchell and SCG head curator Tom Parker to complete the cast for this story based on the clever concept of creating wool threaded with victory.
“What a fantastic idea," Watson said. "I can’t think of a single sporting fan that wouldn’t want a suit made from sheep grazed on Australia’s most hallowed turf. For us it’s a very special feeling to know where the wool has come from.”
M.J. Bale founder Matt Jensen added, "If these suits help the team physically, mentally or metaphorically feel like winners on their way to the West Indies, then it’s all been worth while.”
