JWT Beijing bags luxury cashmere clothing brand Erdos 1436

BEIJING - JWT has won the creative business of high-end luxury brand 1436, named for the type of cashmere used to make its clothes, under the Inner Mongolia-based Erdos Group.

Industry sources said the 1436 brand hopes to challenge the perception that cashmere garments are for conservative and middle-aged people. JWT will be looking to give the brand a better image by appealing to younger customers, according to sources.

1436 was launched in 2007. The 1436 fibre is less than 14.5 micrometres thick and more than 36 micrometres long, and is claimed to make up one of the best quality yarns in the market.

Starting off as an manufacturer for other brands in 1981, Erdos has aimed to bring its own line of high-end products to the mainstream fashion market. Acting as a manufacturer in the supply chain for foreign brands such as Hermes and Eric Bompard did not bring in good returns for Erdos, as already wafer-thin margins were depleted due to rising labour costs and a stronger yuan.
