McCann Erickson appoints Spencer Wong national chief creative officer for China

Wong took up his position in Hong Kong in 2006. Since then the office has become one of the region's most successful agencies. This year McCann Hong Kong picked up a Grand Prix at Cannes, the first time an agency from the SAR had achieved this.

“Clients and we alike have been overwhelmed by the numerous international awards that Spencer and his team have brought home in the last four years,” said TH Peng, CEO of McCann Worldgroup Greater China.

Wong assumed his expanded role last week.

McCann Beijing office has won a number of new clients in 2009, including Lotto, Bank of China Personal Finance, Beijing Mass Transit Railway and Tsinghua EMBA.

“Creativity is the lifeblood of any advertising company. We hope to draw on Spencer’s leadership in the creative domain to benefit more clients in China,” Peng added.

Wong will work closely with Vincent Pang, ECD of McCann Shanghai office, and Danny Chng, group CD of McCann Guangzhou. His primary focus will be on McCann Erickson Beijing, where the agency has a growing roster of local businesses.

Separately, McCann Erickson Beijing ECD Bill Chan is leaving the agency. Neither his departure date nor his replacement have been confirmed.
