No incumbent agency was believed to have been appointed for the business prior. According to a statement, Tribal DDB is expected to manage and deliver digital requirements for the Volkswagen brand with immediate effect in the city-state.

The Omnicom firm will undertake various digital marketing activities ranging from online communication and promotional activities for VW’s new range of models to be released this year.

On the appointment, Jamie Lee, general manager of communications at Volkswagen Group Singapore, said Volkswagen is looking for a strong focus on digital engagement with local consumers.

Lee added: “Tribal DDB has demonstrated a strong understanding of using online mediums to engage customers in unconventional ways. Their capability in the area of innovation is reflective of the Volkswagen brand philosophy and the edge we are looking for in a digital agency.”

Mediacom will continue to be charged with digital media planning for the company.

Volkswagen Group established its own retail operations in the Lion City in February 2007, and is the only automobile firm in Singapore to handle its own retail business directly to underscore its commitment to the local market.

In May, Ogilvy & Mather won Volkswagen's creative account in Indonesia.
