DDB won the Grand Effie and the highest number of metals at the 2024 Hong Kong Effie Awards on October 23, presented by The Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of Hong Kong (HK4As).
DDB’s 'McDiploma' for McDonald’s Hong Kong won the Grand Effie, while the agency was also named the Most Effective Agency of 2024. DDB also won one gold, two silver and three bronze prizes, followed by Ogilvy with one gold and one silver. Saatchi & Saatchi also won one silver, one bronze and one merit.
The agency shared a statement with Campaign following their consecutive Grand Effie wins in Hong Kong: “These wins reinforce and enhance what has fast become DDB’s reputation as Hong Kong’s go-to effectiveness agency, adding not only to their 2023 Effie wins but also recent APAC Effie success where DDB was the only Hong Kong agency awarded, and WARC placing DDB as its highest-ranked Hong Kong agency in its 2024 rankings”.
The awards were presented at a ceremony dubbed 'Moment of Glory', held at Island Shangri-La in Hong Kong with over 120 guests, including jury members, marketers and agency staffers. The organisation gave out 31 awards in total—one Grand Effie, two golds, four silvers, 11 bronzes and 13 merits—from a shortlist of 30 at the award presentation. See the full winners list (PDF).
The jury included over 30 judges. A special panel including jury chair Jason Oke (global client president, Dentsu International), Andreas Moellmann (independent brand and marketing consultant, Publics Groupe), Jaslin Goh (vice president, marketing APAC, Foodpanda), and Tarun Menon (managing director, Kantar Insights, HK) selected the Grand Effie winner. The other contender for the Grand Effie was Ogilvy’s 'Revival Of A Classic' for Coca-Cola.
When asked about his judging experience, Oke said, “I am so proud of the work that we are awarding and showing tonight. There’s work that showcases powerful insights, great creative and strategic leaps, and work that drove impressive business results. Some of its work is proudly from Hong Kong and could only be made in Hong Kong. And you should all be proud of the work that Hong Kong is putting out on the world stage.”
The HK4As has organised and presented the Effie Awards in Hong Kong since 2004.
